Meet at the Bridge - Banner

Saturday, January 16, 2016, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm

Arch Creek Park 1855 NE 135 Street, North Miami, 33181

Relive the 1800’s when families from the nearby communities (North Miami), would come to the historic limestone bridge to have picnics, boating on the creek, explore ancient trails through the nearby tropical hammocks, play folk music., or just relax under the shade of live oak trees.

There will be guided trail walks with people in period costumes, offering live wildlife presentations, pioneer games for children, and live folk music being played on the outside veranda of the museum. Hot dogs and lemonade will be available for purchase.

Sponsored by the Arch Creek Trust, you won’t want to miss this!
For more information, please call or email the park at 305-944-6111 or

Facebook Event:

North Miami City Council Member, Scott Galvin sent an email out trying to alert North Miami City residents of a possible issue. Please keep in mind this doesn’t directly effect Arch Creek Park – Miami-Dade County Park, but I’m sure it will influence a significant increase in traffic along NE 135th Street. The Arch Creek East Nature Preserve is at the end of NE 135th Street, its a nice pedestrian trail/path that is highly used by the surround community -joggers, cyclists, dog walkers, etc.

Below is the email Sent out by Scott Galvin:

FIU Wants New Road to North Campus
Exploring Opening of NE 135 Street!
Residents of Arch Creek East, I have alarming news to share with you.

Goodbye to Our Preserve?

Florida International University is exploring options for adding an additional road to their campus. And one of them is to ask the City to destroy our Environmental Preserve and open NE 135 Street. Click here to read a summary of the traffic study.

We must not let that happen!

Please mark your calendar to attend this very important meeting of the Miami-Dade County Transportation Planning Council!

Dade County Transportation Planning Council
Monday, October 3rd at 2:00 pm

Stephen P. Clark Center
111 NW First Street
Miami, FL 33128
18th Floor Conference Room

We can end this madness now. The Transportation Planning Council (TPC) can vote to move forward without NE 135 Street as an option. Sure, eventually, the North Miami City Council would be the ones to eventually decide whether to open the street, but let’s not wait that long. Join your neighbors on October 3rd and urge the TPC to keep Arch Creek East whole.

Five Reasons It’s Bad to Open NE 135 Street:

  • It will bring much more traffic, which endangers the many pedestrians who walk and jog in the area, as well as the children who play in the grassy median
  • It overturns and destroys the valuable Environmental Preserve we worked so hard to create
  • It decimates property values
  • There are other options for a new road that are not in residential areas: NE 143 Street, NE 151 Street, and NE 163 Street
  • It’s cost, between $5 – $12 million will be paid by North Miami and Miami-Dade taxpayers. FIU isn’t offering to pay a single penny!

But FIU Says They Need an “Emergency” Entrance…

I agree they need a new road in case of emergencies. But as the new Traffic Study shows, that can be accomplished simply through NE 156 Street by the Water Treatment Plant. This will allow emergency access without destroying any residential and environmental areas.

Please join your neighbors at the October 3rd TPC meeting and fight this!
